The Lonesome Laugh of the Hyena
In the golden light of dawn, where the savanna breathes with the warmth of a new day, there exists a Hyena named Nala. Her tawny fur glimmers with the first rays of sunlight; however, beneath that radiant exterior lies a heart heavy with melancholy. Nala runs alone, her laughter—a sound often perceived as wicked—echoes through the empty plains, a haunting reminder of her solitude.
While her kin hunt in packs, flaunting their camaraderie and strength, Nala finds herself trailing behind, the sharp edges of rejection cutting deeper with each failed attempt to join the spirited throng. And so she wanders, her days merging into a blur of desolation, trying to make a home in the skeletal trees and sun-baked earth where laughter feels more like a curse than a comfort.
As the sun sets, painting the sky with hues of purple and orange, Nala retreats to her makeshift den, a hollowed-out mound of dirt. There, she lies enveloped in darkness, the silence a cruel companion. She remembers the days when her laughter flowed freely, a symphony of joy shared with those she loved. Yet, time cruelly weaves change—a reminder that companionship can too often become a fleeting shadow.
Nala finds solace in the stars, whispering secrets to the universe, wishing for a kindred spirit to share her burdens. With every twinkling light, she yearns for an understanding ear, the gentle brush of a friend against her side.
But the world sees only her laugh and the sly glimmer in her eyes, labeling her as a trickster, a villain in the tales of the wild—never a victim of circumstance. In their eyes, she is unlovable, lost in her own darkness, and so she remains alone.
And so, in this unforgiving savanna, where beauty intertwines with brutality, Nala understands that the very thing that defines her—the laughter of a Hyena—has become an echo of her sorrow, a sound that fills the air with emptiness, masking the truth that lies beneath.
In silence she cries, but only the stars bear witness, dancing in their own cosmic laughter—the laughter of the lonely sky.
